The thirteen-year-old girl who was shot while on her way to school on Thursday morning remains critical at hospital.
On Thursday, the girl’s mother 38-year-old Alana Mohammed was reversing her car out of the garage of their Dass Branch Road home in Enterprise when gunmen approached the car. They shot at it six times; Mohammed died on the spot but her daughter, Tihira Mohammed, was shot in the back.
Her father, who was at home at the time of the incident, took his daughter to the Chaguanas Health Facility to be treated for her injuries. She was then transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) where she underwent emergency surgery.
She is expected to complete a series of surgeries, as she suffered injuries to her kidney, liver and spleen.
The teenager is a student of Lakshmi Girls Hindu School, and her mother is said to be the sister of a police officer attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
Officers found 12 nine-millimetre calibre spent shells at the scene.
Police are continuing investigations.
