A 16-year-old Couva girl is dead after she was reportedly beaten and fell down a flight of stairs on Tuesday afternoon.
According to ADD News TT Alliyah Kandice Alexander was brought to the Couva District Health Facility at around 4.10 pm.
Medical staff were told the girl was beaten with a belt by a male relative who is a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
Alexander died while at hospital.
The relative has since been detained by police after he was attacked by relatives at the health facility.
Alexander was a student of Couva West Secondary.
Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region III are continuing enquiries.
