Teachers to take another “rest” day on Monday – Budget Day

Teachers have been told to take another day of rest and reflection on Monday, 26th September – Budget Day.

This call was issued on Friday by the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) to its membership via an advisory signed by First Vice President Marlon Seales.

The advisory was circulated online and in it, the association says the Chief Personnel Officer has not contacted them to indicate when dialogue between negotiating teams would continue.

The advisory said: “On Monday September 26, 2022 (budget day), reflect on what a 2022 budget could mean on your 2014 salary.”

During an interview with 103.1FM News, TTUTA President Antonia Tekah-De Freitas said it is unfortunate that they have to take disruptive action to get their message across to the state.

Monday’s day of rest and reflection follows the first protest on September 5th, where teachers also stayed home to “rest and reflect.”

The second was held Thursday with teachers only reporting to school for the second half of the day.
