SWWTU President says Govt safe-zone public sector policy not suported by data

SWWTU President, Michael Anisette maintains that any policy asking workers to divulge their vaccination status is akin to probing a person’s personal medical history.

He made the comment while speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show this morning.

This as the Joint Trade Union Movement maintains its stance that all public sector workers should report for duty on January 17, vaccinated or not.

Union heads held a press conference on the steps of the Attorney General’s Office in Port-of-Spain on Tuesday to raise their concerns about the government’s plan to create safe zones in public offices.

President General of the Oilfields Workers Unions and the Joint Trade Union Movement, Ancel Roget wants those who choose not to be vaccinated to also show up to work.

Mr Anisette suggested that the Government is to blame for the current impasse as it has not held meaningful discussions yet with the Trade Unions before attempting to impose the safe zone measures in the public sector.

Arguing that there was no policy guiding the Government’s actions, Mr Annisette also dismissed the Government’s claim that establishing safe zones will minimize the spread of the virus.

He added that there has been no scientific data to support this claim.
