SWRHA says elderly seen waiting in the rain had no appointments

After senior citizens were caught on camera lined up in the rain, waiting to be vaccinated this morning at the La Romaine health centre, the South West Regional Health Authority is now doing some damage control.

The elderly were caught in the heavy rainfall, as the Health Ministry resumed it’s vaccination drive for people 65 years and over today.

The SWRHA said it notes videos and pictures circulating on social media of persons 65 years & over outside a few of our health facilities.

They said “While we strive for an efficient system overlay for the vaccination process, these valued citizens were without confirmed appointments. These persons were so advised by our attending staff to resolve the situation. We continue to remind that SWRHA will call and schedule appointments for persons 65 & over.”

The SWRHA said this process avoids congregation in breach of the current public health regulations.

Thankfully, businessman Shane Mahabirsingh had erected tents outside the health centre overnight, providing shelter for the elderly. Mahabirsingh visited several vaccination sites in the SWRHA leaving behind tents, chairs and hand sanitizer. Express chief photographer Dexter Philip captured this video. See Less
