SWMCOL: Blaze At Beetham Landfill Contained, Air Quality Tests Shows 25% Smoke Reduction

The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited says the blaze at the Beetham Landfill Site has been contained.

According to reports the fire started at approximately 5 pm on Wednesday April 6th at the southern tip of the Landfill Site.

Air quality tests conducted by SWMCOL’s Environmental Officers in the downtown and surrounding areas indicate a 25% reduction in smoke; a further reduction is expected as the day progresses.

The company reminds residents of the surrounding areas and commuters, particularly those with respiratory conditions to proceed with caution.

SWMCOL apologizes for the inconvenience to the traveling public and those with respiratory conditions as it work assiduously to have the issue rectified.
