Suspected car thief hospitalised following dramatic shootout with police in St Ann’s

Drama in St Ann’s on Sunday as police and a suspected car thief were engaged in a shootout.

Reports are that officers of the Western Division Task Force were chasing a stolen Honda CRV around the Queen’s Park Savannah, when it was eventually intercepted on St Ann’s Avenue, near the St Ann’s RC Church around 5:20pm.

Police stated that when the officers called on the man to come out of the car, he allegedly shot at them.
Officers returned fire and the man was hit.

Other men who were in the car ran away.

The car was stolen from it’s owners in Four Roads, Diego Martin, at around 4.30 pm.

The wounded suspect was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Western Division police are continuing the search for the other suspects.
