Suspect shot while attempting to rob fruit stall vendor

One of three male suspects was wounded during the attempted robbery of a fruit stall vendor along M1 Tasker Road, Princes Town on Tuesday.

Two men, one armed with a firearm, entered the fruit stall around 4:00 pm and announced a hold-up.

The armed suspect pointed the firearm at the vendor but he grabbed the suspect in an attempt to subdue him.

A struggle ensued during which a loud explosion was heard.

It resulted in the suspect being wounded on his right leg.

The vendor ran to safety in some bushes nearby and the suspects escaped on foot.

They later entered a waiting vehicle on Cedar Hill Estate Road, Princes Town. But the vehicle was later intercepted by police along Cipero Road, Golconda and the three male occupants, all in their twenties, were arrested.

The wounded suspect is currently at San Fernando General Hospital in stable condition.

Enquiries are continuing.
