Suspect in photo journalist hit-and-run released from custody

The suspect detained by police on Wednesday in connection with the fatal hit-and-run accident involving photo journalist photographer Anthony Harris has been released.

This is according to Senior Police officials who said yesterday that the man was interrogated on Wednesday and several statements were obtained.

TTPS Corporate Communications Manager Joanne Archie said: “Statements were recorded and he was released pending further investigations.”

A vehicle which was also impounded remained with the Special Evidence Recovery Unit up to yesterday.

Meanwhile, police have expressed concern with a picture of the suspect that has been circulated online.

They say this could lead irate members of the public to go in search of him.

No one has as yet been arrested or charged in connection with the road fatality.

Harris, 60, was cycling around the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, last Saturday (July 9), when the driver of a white car ploughed into him and fled the scene. Harris passed away at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital the following day.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
