Stuart fires back at Health Minister: Shortage of nurses affecting dengue patient care!

T&T National Nursing Association (TTNNA) President Idi Stuart is responding to a dismissal by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh of a shortage of nurses to attend to dengue patients.

Last week, the Health Minister announced that in preparation for an increase in dengue cases, the ministry had commenced a screening centre at the Couva Multi-Purpose Facility and other facilities will be rolled out across several areas.

Stuart claimed that the opening of new dengue screening centres places additional demands on staff stationed at the facilities.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show this morning Stuart said that it is common knowledge that the Health sector has been experiencing a nursing shortage for some time now.

Stuart said that some of the facilities are not even functioning optimally, which is another reason the decision by the Health Ministry is so perplexing.
