Staff shortages cited as major factor in school violence

TTUTA President is suggesting that staffing shortages are contributing to what appears to be a growing trend of violence in schools.

Martin Lum Kin told Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show that the Ministry Of Education is lacking the necessary manpower to provide assistance in stemming the violence seen in schools.

He highlighted the Student Support Services as an example of the staff shortage facing the Education sector.

Mr Lum Kin said the Ministry of Education cannot provide any meaningful intervention unless these staff shortages are addressed.

The TTUTA President also spoke about the video circulating on social media which appeared to show Tranquillity Government Secondary School students involved in a fight.

He said that the school is just a microcosm of the environment and the violence is a result of what is taking place in country as a whole.
