Prime Minister Dr. The Honorable Ralph Gonsalves is said to be receiving treatment for a head injury he sustained yesterday during protests in his country.

Gonsalves was physically assaulted and wounded by demonstrators while trying to enter the House of Assembly at about 5.15 pm.

An Opposition demonstrator then hurled a projectile at the Prime Minister, which struck him on the head, inches above the temple. The Prime Minister, bleeding profusely, was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital by his security detail, where he was met by his wife.

During a Parliament session in the evening, Finance Minister Camillo Gonsalves said medical staff had recommended that the Prime Minister be flown to Barbados for an MRI scan.

Deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel spoke to NBC’s Johnny Straker this morning and provided an update on the Prime Minister.

He said he had confidence that the St Vincent people would move on from this negative situation in a positive manner.
