South contractor charged with fraud

A 38-year-old contractor of Hardbargain Village, Williamsville, was charged with one count of larceny on Saturday 18th September 2021.

In February, 2021 a contractor received money totaling $37,000 from a homeowner as down payment towards undertaking roadworks on behalf of the homeowner. A contract was entered between both parties detailing the scope of works, total cost, schedule of payments, and the start and completion dates.

After the down payment was made, the contractor refused to answer phone calls from the homeowner, and no work was done on the project.

After several failed attempts to contact the contractor, the homeowner made a report to the Fraud Squad in April 2021. Investigations were conducted by Cpl Cummings, of the Fraud Squad.

As a result of the investigations, NIGEL CHADEE was arrested by officers of the Fraud Squad on Saturday 18th September 2021.

He was charged for the larceny of $37,000 and is due to appear virtually at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20th September, 2021.
