Soldier Granted $100,000 Bail after New Year’s Day Assault

A soldier was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with surety or an Alternate Cash Bail of $20,000, when he appeared before a South Masters’ Court on Monday 1st July 2024, to answer to charges of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Malicious Damage.

The matter was adjourned to July 30th, 2024.

According to police, around 1 am on Monday 1st January, 2024, a woman went to the home of a man to attend New Year’s Day celebration. Whilst there the woman observed the said man in a room with another woman and became enraged.

An altercation ensued between them, during which time the man allegedly choked the woman. The man also allegedly bit the woman’s fingers and ripped down her dress and undergarments.

The incident was reported on the same day at the La Brea Police Station and the accused was charged on the same day by PC Williams in connection with the offence.

Investigations were spearheaded by ASP Seecharan and Sgt Taylor of the Special Victims Department.
