With a simple majority all that is required to extend the State of Emergency by three months, the Opposition is maintaining its call for the Government to justify the extension.
Opposition MP Anita Haynes says the onus is on the Government to explain to the public and justify the reasons for the SOE extension.
She told Power 102 Digital this morning that while the Opposition will approach the debate with an open mind, the Government must explain why it has chosen what she describes as a “nuclear option” to fight against COVID.
She added that the Government must come prepared to account for the last 3 months and must present data and statistics to if it intends to get the Opposition and the public on its side.
Debate on this will begin at one thirty this afternoon.
