Social Workers go unnoticed but are ‘Essential’ to our society

According to the TT Association for Social Workers (TTASW), social work is a profession that usually comes with minimum praise.

The aim of a social worker is to enhance the overall well-being and help meet basic and complex needs of communities and people. But sadly, that hard work and diligence of a social worker goes unnoticed.

However, with March being Social Work month, izzso decided to reach out to the TTASW and shine a light on this “unnoticed’ profession.

The theme for 2021 is ‘Social Workers are Essential’, and the annual day recognises social work professionals, their vision and their hard work and contributions to society.

But how much do we really know about social workers, what does it mean to be a social worker and what exactly is it that they do.

For that answer, we hear from Social Worker/Probation Officer and executive member of the TTASW Gina Malchan-Bonas.

TTASW PRO Arlene Smith enlightened us to the way in which the Social Work month is to be celebrated

In light of the recent murder of a mother in front of her children, Malchan-Bonas told us how Social workers treat with such incidents and the families left behind having to deal with trauma.
