Social Development Ministry Renders Help To Gran Riviere Flood Victims

Twenty-two families in Grande Riviere and Matelot received emergency food support over the weekend after they were adversely affected by flooding, following heavy rainfall on June 29th.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services says thus far, it has received and is processing applications from fourteen families from the Sangre Grande and Toco areas.

In a media release on Monday, the Ministry said from the applications received, a majority of the families are requesting assistance with repairs to their damaged homes; and for household appliances lost as a result of the flood.

The Ministry said it continues to receive applications from those adversely affected through the online system from the Disaster Management Unit of the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government.

The Ministry’s Social Workers for the Sangre Grande/Toco area are also providing psycho-social support for that in need.

Persons may contact the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services’ Hotline at 800-1MSD or any  Social Welfare District offices for further information and assistance.

The Ministry said it remains resolute to its mandate of helping, empowering, and transforming the lives of all persons, particularly those who are most in need.
