Trinidad and Tobago Senior Men’s team claimed a 2-1 victory over Guyana in the first of two international friendlies Monday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The match was a warm up for their June 5th opening World Cup Qualifying match.
The first goal for TT came in the 28th minute courtesy Ezekiel Kesar, who took advantage of an errant midfield pass by the Guyanese.
The visitors almost drew level when their forward Kelsey Benjamin almost got in behind the T&T defence from a breakdown on the left. Stephen Mc Donald’s powerful flank run opened the path for his curling pass to Benjamin, who stumbled and gave Christopher Bigette enough time to block.
But veteran T&T striker Kevon Woodley would seal the deal and score TT’s second goal in the 39th minute to give TT the 2-0 advantage.
Guyana replied in the 47th with their lone goal of the evening, courtesy Benhamin.
TT and Guyana will meet in the second and final match of the series Wednesday night at the same venue.
