Soca artistes have banded together to show their support for ailing entertainer Dexter ‘Blaxx’ Stewart.
Known for his signature line ‘Ban yuh Belly’ and hit songs ‘I am Blessed’ and ‘Tusty’, Stewart was hospitalised on Tuesday after experiencing breathing difficulties.
He also released a patriotic unity song entitled ‘Same Way’ a few months ago.
Stewart’s close friends, fellow soca stars Ian ‘Bunji Garlin’ Alvarez and Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez have been at his side since the beginning of his ordeal.
Machel Montano posted a video to his Instagram page in which he asked fans to support by donating to an account set up at Republic Bank to assist with Stewart’s medical bills and other expenses.
Montano said, “Blaxx, we in the soca fraternity, friends and fans, we stand in support of you at his time,”
Kes has also asked the public to support Blaax.
In a post shared to his Facebook page, he said, “Ever since we entered into Soca music Sir Dexter Blaxx has always given encouragement and words of advice in his own ‘ Plain talk Bad manners ‘ way. You had to listen . Leaders and elders are needed at all times to guide the future . We support you at this time @dsblaxx and wish you true healing.”
Erphaan Alves posted a video to his Twitter account also seeking donations.
Destra Garcia and others have also posted similar requests to their social media accounts.
Stewart’s plight was first highlighted by Dawg E Slaughter who sought donations from the public.
