Soca Monarch gets rebranded and set to take place virtually on February 12

February 12, 2021 is the Friday before Carnival, and every Carnival Friday, the International Soca Monarch competition is held.

This year, however, due to a pandemic, the event will still be held, but in the virtual realm.

Creative Director Simon Baptiste told the Newsday that the competition, which will be rebranded to just ‘The Monarch’ will take place as scheduled and that the management team was currently seeking sponsorship for prizes.

That, however, will be hard sell, since NCC chairman Winston “Gypsy” Peters maintained that there is no Carnival 2021 and as such, the NCC would not be recognising any winner for any event.

And, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Randall Mitchell has also pointed out that all those doing events and eyeing government subventions will have nothing to receive, since Carnival was not budgeted for.
