Sinopharm vaccine finally gets WHO approval – good news for TT says Browne

The World Health Organization (WHO) has finally given emergency approval for use of the Chinese Covid19 vaccine, Sinopharm.

This means that WHO will allow the vaccine to be included in its global vaccine facility, COVAX.

WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the vaccine was the sixth to receive WHO validation for safety, efficacy and quality.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Amery Browne, said “This is excellent news for the people of Trinidad and Tobago, particularly in light of the 100,000 doses that have been generously offered to T&T by the People’s Republic of China.”

He said “This EUL approval by the World Health Organisation will help to significantly improve vaccine availability to our nation, and to the wider CARICOM region.”

Browne added “The Ambassador of China in Port of Spain has been particularly helpful in keeping us informed every step of the way, and has maintained ongoing and mutually respectful communication with our Government on the issue of access to COVID-19 vaccines.”
