The sinkhole on the southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway near Grand Bazaar, has been repaired, ahead of schedule.
In a Facebook post yesterday, the Ministry of Works and Transport said the road is now fully accessible to vehicular traffic.
It said: “Members of the public are advised that the Uriah Butler Highway at the 2.4 km mark, southbound, in the vicinity of Grand Bazaar, has reopened ahead of schedule. The road, which was previously closed for repair works is now fully accessible.”
Last week, a sinkhole appeared in the area, which caused vehicles to be damaged as unsuspecting motorists drove over it.
Videos shared on social media showed good Samaritans initially trying to alert drivers to the sinkhole.
The Ministry of Works and Transport stepped in hours later and began emergency repair works.
The road was closed on Friday and Saturday to allow for the construction work to take place.
