Single mother of three gets support from Social Dev. Ministry

Following a report titled, “Days without food for single parent, 3 children”, the Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox  reached out to Ms Nadine Lawrence to provide immediate assistance.

According to the report, Ms Lawrence, a former housekeeper has been grappling with financial instability since March, 2020, due to restrictions associated with COVID-19.

“As a single parent, Lawrence receives public assistance from the Ministry amounting to $1750 per month but since she is now unemployed, $1500 from her grant is used to pay rent.  As a consequence, she is out of food for many days.”

Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator the Honourable Donna Cox met with Ms Lawrence today, at the Ministry’s Head Office where she was immediately presented with food vouchers.

Following this, Ms Lawrence was assessed for income support, food support and rental assistance, three grants which are being offered under the Ministry’s COVID-19 Social Support.

Ms Lawrence indicated that she is grateful for the assistance from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services and that many persons and organizations have since reached out to her to provide assistance for her and her children.

She was also informed of counselling and psychosocial support from the Family Services Division if she felt these were necessary.

Minister Cox assured Ms Lawrence that the Ministry will continue to follow up on her case to help her, and her family gain a better quality of life and encouraged her to remain optimistic that her conditions will improve.
