Several bags of “camouflage” clothing and accessories were seized from a business place in downtown Port of Spain on Wednesday afternoon.

A joint team of officers from the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Customs and Excise Division reportedly swooped down on a store on Frederick Street after receiving information and confiscated the camouflage items for sale.

The officers visited the store around 4 pm where they spoke with the proprietor and told her that the clothing was prohibited.

Police seized several garbage bags filled with the items and loaded them into vehicles.

The owner of the business place who is a Chinese national was detained.

Police and Customs and Excise Division are expected to view the clothing seized.

Under Legal Notice 33 of 1984, it is illegal to “acquire, possess, import or sell” camouflage pattern materials unless the Minister of National Security certifies that it is to be used by the TT Defence Force.
