Several Aspects Of Children’s Community Residences Act To Be Proclained By March 2023

March 2023 is the time frame being given for the proclamation of certain sections of the Children’s Community Residences, Foster Care and Nurseries Act.

Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with reasonability for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster Roy, made the disclosure in the Senate on Tuesday.

At the time of the proclamation of the package of children’s legislation in May 2015, the residential child care sector was unregulated. As such, many of the homes needed time and help in order to become fully compliant with the licensing requirements.

To facilitate this and to avoid the displacement of a significant number of children the sections have not been proclaimed.

Minister Webster Roy said the Children’s Authority is working to enable many homes to achieve licensing status.

To date 18 homes have been licensed.
