In front of the press, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Amadou Ba returned on the repatriation of the bodies of compatriots who died from Covid-19 in the affected countries. “We are in a global situation which imposes certain exceptions. Senegalese are infected with Covid-19, some of them have even died in countries affected by the pandemic.
No longer able to repatriate bodies in view of the world situation, we ask families to understand this difficult position. The state has decided to accompany them by buying graves in the cemeteries of each religion, so that the Senegalese who died from Covid-19 in the affected countries will be buried there.
Instruction has been given to our diplomatic and consular missions to approach the administrative and municipal authorities of the cities of residences without delay so as to have, whenever necessary during this exceptional period, a burial in Muslim or Catholic cemeteries for our faithful departed from the coronavirus. It is difficult, it is very difficult but it is the situation which imposes it and it is necessary to adapt “declared Amadou Ba.
“We did it in Spain with a compatriot who died and was buried there. Her family was sad and she was very understanding. I offer my condolences to the Senegalese nation. Every Senegalese who died in these countries will be treated with the utmost respect until burial before an imam or a leader of his religion, “he also revealed.
Finally, the Minister hopes that this situation will be behind us as soon as possible. “I offer my condolences to all these families who have lost a member in this pandemic …” he concluded
