Sean Luke’s accused killers to face retrial

Two men, accused of murdering six-year-old Sean Luke over 16 years ago when they were teenagers, will have to face a retrial.

Appeal Judges Nolan Bereaux, Mark Mohammed and Maria Wilson ordered the retrial for Akeel Mitchell and Richard Chatoo who have both maintained their innocence in the matter.

The men’s appeal centred around what they claimed was a number of serious errors made by the judge who delivered their guilty verdicts.

The appellate judges agreed that Justice Lisa Ramsumair- Hinds made “material errors which have led to a serious miscarriage of justice”.
