Scrap Iron Industry Generates Millions Over 10 Year Period, Reveals National Security Minister

Scrap metal exports generated 69 million TT dollars in 2009 jumping to 216 million dollars in 2018.

This represents an increase of over two and thirteen percent over ten years.

The price of copper is about fifteen thousand TT dollars per tonne.

The figures were made public by Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, while speaking at a news briefing held at the Ministry’s Head Office on Monday.

Minister Hinds said the information was obtained from the Central Statistical Office.

Minister Hinds said since 2010 the scrap iron industry has also seen a significant growth bringing over 260 million dollars in 2021 to the Gross Domestic Product of Trinidad and Tobago.
