Scrap Iron Dealers Urged To “Hold Strain” As Gov’t Moves To Regulate Sector

Hold strain, is the message being sent to legitimate scrap iron dealers by their association President, Allan Ferguson.

He made the plea while speaking at a news briefing held today at Yzee Event Hall, 245 Kelly Village, Caroni.

Mr Ferguson said there are times when some in the membership called on him to carry out protest action.

However, Mr Ferguson said he tried to restrain them, and urged his members to display patience and endurance while the government carries out work to reform the sector.

The association urged the government to reopen the industry so its members will be able to provide for themselves, families and others.

Mr Ferguson claimed many of the dealers will not be able to open again due to bankruptcy as they are not able to currently pay their rent and meet other commitments.

He also urged the spiritual community to come on board and support them in their struggle for improved conditions.

Mr Ferguson said after carnival, the population can expect renewed action on this subject.
