Scarborough Market officially open for business

The Scarborough Market is officially open for business.

The newly refurbished facility was recommissioned on Monday.

Chief Secretary Ancil K. Dennis, Secretary of Food Production, Forestry and Fisheries, Assemblyman Hayden Spencer and Secretary of Finance and the Economy, Assemblyman Joel Jack were among the officials present.

This Scarborough Market Facility project which was started in July 2018 was undertaken to upgrade the existing facility in compliance with international health and safety standards. During this period, the market operations were housed at a temporary facility in Shaw Park.

During his feature address at the recommissioning ceremony, Chief Secretary Dennis, who has been championing the cause for a more robust agriculture sector said, this sector presents every Tobagonian with an opportunity to produce. He said, the THA will continue to demonstrate its commitment to Tobago’s farmers and every other stakeholder within the industry, to get back to the point where Tobago can properly feed itself and Trinidad.

On Monday, the ribbon was cut to mark the facility in Scarborough officially open to the public.
