Sangre Grande pensioner dies after shotgun goes off while being cleaned

A 76-year-old man is dead after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his licensed shotgun at his home in Sangre Chiquito on Sunday.

According to reports, Deonarine Mahase of Lezama Trace in Sangre Chiquito, Sangre Grande, was cleaning his shotgun around 11:00am, when it accidentally went off and he was shot in the stomach.

Relatives heard the gunshot and upon checking, found Mahase lying on the ground bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Mahase was rushed to the Sangre Grande hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

Investigations are underway.
