There is the view the prize money for the National Panorama competition should be increased to two million dollars.
The suggestion comes from San Fernando Mayor, Junia Regrello.
Currently, the first prize for Panorama is one million dollars.
Speaking during the Afternoon Power Drive Programme on Power 102 Digital Wednesday, Mayor Regrello said he based his proposal on the rising costs of the various elements needed to properly prepare a steel band for the prestigious competition.
Mr Regrello said some band leaders sourced loans from the banks to get money to help in the preparation of their bands.
He also responded to questions posed to him about the level of support from the corporate community adding there are bands which have not benefited from funding for many years.
Mayor Regrello said the Covid-19 pandemic put a strain on many businesses and there are bands which continue to struggle to get financial backing.
