Sando Chamber anticipates slow start to retail business

Head of the Greater San Fernando Area Chamber Of Commerce (GSFCC), Kiran Singh, said his membership is eagerly looking forward to reopening its doors to all valued customers.

On Saturday, the Minister of Health announced the reopening of the retail sector from Monday, August 16th.

Although his members are happy, Singh said the organisation anticipates that business activity will start off slowly but “will pick up as we move toward the Christmas season.’

Singh said “Retail has been stunted for so long, but now economic activity can be rejuvenated.”

Regarding the issue of mandatory vaccination, Singh said he did not agree that businesses should adopt a mandatory vaccine policy.

He said, “While this may seem to be a logical direction to move in, especially because it has been implemented in other countries, the GSFCC would hope that citizens will become more amenable to vaccination, insofar that this measure will not be necessary.”

According to Singh, “We must continue to use moral suasion to convince them to become vaccinated. Education is certainly critical at this point.”
