The San Fernando Business Association claims eighty percent of establishments closed following the shutdown of Pointe-a-Pierre refinery in 2019 and the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago have not reopened.
Association President, Daphne Bartlett, made the disclosure while being interviewed by News Power Now Thursday.
Ms Bartlett revealed many businesses are feeling the pressure due to a number unemployed persons.
Downsizing is also taking place by businesses according to Ms Bartlett.
The business official cited the need and importance of people retooling their skills to become more marketable to earn an income from other legitimate sources.
