Sale of cooked food at Barataria grocery shut down by cops

Police swooped down on the Food Giant Supermarket in Barataria on Tuesday and shut down their sale of cooked food.

Reports are that the officers stopped the workers from selling food to customers and ordered the closure of the food area, without giving a reason.

The latest COVID19 public health regulations prohibit the sale of food at restaurants and street outlets to avoid the congregation of people.

Supermarkets are deemed an essential service and are allowed to remain open.

However, while some supermarkets offer cooked meals in-store, it is unclear how the sale of food applies to them.
