The Salary Reviews Commission is considering reducing the salaries of Masters at the nation’s High Court.
However, the salaries of Masters were fixed by parliament.
Confirmation of this comes from Chief Justice, Ivor Archie.
He made the revelation while delivering the feature address at the Commemoration of the Opening of the 2024-2025 Law Term of the Supreme Court of Judicature.
It was held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain on Friday.
CJ Archie said judicial officers are under strain especially Masters.
After recommending increases for 93 percent of offices under its preview, the SRC is now attempting to reduce the salaries of masters.
Archie said he was informed by the Commission that advice received from senior counsel is what parliament did was unconstitutional.
