Russia Strike Hits Maternity And Children’s Wards In Mariupol

Officials say a maternity ward and a children’s ward have been destroyed in a Russian air strike on a hospital in the southern city of Mariupol.

The City Council says “The destruction is colossal,”.

There are reports of many dead and injured in the city, where people have been trapped for days with little food.

According to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, Russia earlier agreed a new twelve hour ceasefire to allow civilians to flee six of the worst-affected areas in Ukraine.

The cities’ mayors say civilians have been leaving the north-eastern city of Sumy and Enerhodar.

However, Ukraine says continued Russian shelling has again stopped residents leaving the besieged city of Mariupol as well as Izyum near Kharkiv.
