Russia Cites Sanctions For Gas Pipeline Shutdown

Russia is calling for sanctions against it to be lifted.

The country says this is one of the conditions it will like to see come through before it resumes supplying gas via a key pipeline to Europe.

Western nations are being blamed by Moscow for its decision not to reopen the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

Europe has accused Russia of using gas supplies to blackmail European countries due to the Ukraine conflict.

Maintenance was cited as the reason for shutting the pipeline for three days.

On Monday concerns over energy supplies contributed to the price of gas going up.

In recent weeks wholesale prices have been very volatile.

However, last week they fell sharply when Germany said its gas storage facilities were filling up faster than expected.
