Rowley engages with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate (SPEC), John Kerry

Prime Minister Dr the Hon Keith Rowley engaged with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate (SPEC), John Kerry on a number of initiatives that are being pursued by Trinidad and Tobago in the areas of methane and carbon reduction, including the use of Carbon Capture Sequestration and Utilization during a virtual meeting on Thursday 25th May.

The meeting focused on the use of captured carbon to produce blue energy products, renewables and newer and more efficient technologies in electricity production.

Discussions also included plans for methanol fueling and bunkering for shipping as Trinidad is well placed geographically and a major producer of methanol.

The development of the country’s first green hydrogen project and other projects which illustrate Trinidad and Tobago’s active reduction of harmful greenhouse gas emissions whilst still using our hydrocarbon resources in a responsible manner was highlighted.

The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP28 is scheduled to take place in December 2023 in the United Arab Emirates. Trinidad and Tobago like many small island states continue to be negatively affected by climate change.

Other matters related to energy security and regional energy development were also discussed.
Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Stuart Young and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Hon. Dr. Amery Browne were also present at today’s meeting.
