Rowley defends European trip amid Opposition “joyride” comments

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is defending his trip to Europe to speak with oil and gas producers.

Speaking this morning at a press conference, he explained that the Government is not a direct producer of gas but rather buys gas from companies which drill for the commodity.

He revealed that T&T has gone from 4.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day to 2.9 billion cubic feet per day.

This he noted has impacted the income received from the industry.

Dr Rowley said this is why he found it necessary to meet with the heads of these companies.

He denied claims that his contingent went to visit production plants, explaining that the visit focused on discussing future plans for the industry in Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr Rowley added that the talks were productive as he outlined some of the areas of potential benefit to Trinidad and Tobago.
