Robinson – Regis: I misrepresented HDC figure!

Housing Minister Camille Robinson Regis says that a comment she made that the HDC was owed over $1 billion in arrears from delinquent clients for a six-year period was incorrect.

She gave the information yesterday when questioned on the figure given.

The clarification was given by the Housing Ministry which said that the figure represented a cumulated deliquency on debt owed to the HDC by occupants of HDC properties for the period 2016 to June 2022.

The Housing Ministry also stated that according to information provided by the HDC the amount outstanding for the period January to June 2022 is close to $151 million.

However Minister Regis clarified yesterday that she had misrepresented the information and that it wasn’t $1 billion but rather $150 million.

She said a subsequent release had been sent clarifying the information on Wednesday.

However a release sent by the Housing Ministry on Thursday afternoon stated that the figure of $1,012,393,557.36 represented a cumulated delinquency by occupants of HDC properties for the period 2016 to JUne 2022.

The Ministry also said that the amount outstanding for the period January to June 2022 was $150, 940 087. 63.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) currently owes contractors $1.3 billion.

Robinson said the contractors are upset and said the debt owed by HDC clients was a direct contributor to monies owed to the contractors.
