Roberto Cavalli Muses ‘Trini’ Fashion Model, Naomi Chin Wing

On Monday, Roberto Cavalli released “Season Zero,” a reimagined approach to a Fall 2021 collection, under the direction of Fausto Puglisi, the brand’s recently-appointed “creative consultant.”

Trinibagoian Model Naomi Chin Wing was one of chosen international models to be featured in Roberto Cavalli Fall 2021/ Ready-to-Wear collection campaign.

The collection hits all the Cavalli beats: It’s molto heavy on animal motifs, and the clothes are cut to show off lots of skin. Puglisi’s signature double-slit dress, which was made famous by J.Lo and Kendall Jenner, reappears in RC prints. That said, not everything is headed for the nightclub or the red carpet. Cavalli built his brand on fashionable denim in the 1970s. Puglisi dyed his denim in the black and beige shades that dominate the season’s palette. Hoodies, puffers, and leather perfectos with gold claw embellishments are also foundational.

During 2015, Chin Wing won Coco Velvet International’s Top Model Trinidad and Tobago contest. Her breakout moment actually occurred the season before: The 18-year-old model was cast to walk exclusively in the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2018 show in Paris, which, essentially launched her modeling career.

She took on couture next and graced the runways at Dior Haute Couture, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier Couture, and Valentino Haute Couture. Then, for the Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear season, she walked in a whopping total of 26 shows across New York, London, and Paris (she was sick in Milan, unfortunately, and had to sit that one out), including Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Off-White, and Alexander McQueen.

When asked, what are her dreams in an interview with  she said “At this point, it’s to create a better life for me and my family, because where we come from, we don’t have much. I didn’t grow up with a lot of money, so creating a safe space for my family is one of my biggest goals. It hard not having the money for school books, for shoes. It’s hard seeing your parents struggle. I’m doing this for myself and for my family.”

Naomi Chin Wing continues to make her nation proud as she strides towards her full potential.
