Less than a day after a 53-year-old police sergeant was beaten and robbed of his pistol, police from the Port of Spain Task Force assisted officers of the Southern Division in arresting a suspect and finding the weapon.
On Monday night the sergeant who is currently on vacation leave was walking back to his Gasparillo house after throwing away garbage when he was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife.
The men forced him inside the house where they beat him and stole his M&P pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.
The bandits also stole a pair of tactical boots, a pair of handcuffs, and other items.
Further reports state that officers from the Port of Spain Task Force went to Buen Intento Road, Princes Town, at around 5 pm on Tuesday where they found the 40-year-old suspect.
The officers then went to an area on Canom Stoeke Road, Princes Town, where they found the pistol with seven rounds of ammunition.
A flashlight which was also stolen from the officer’s home was found.
Southern Division police are continuing enquiries.
