“Revenge will not bring Ashanti back” – Pastor Steve Riley

Steve Riley, the Pastor and cousin of Ashanti Riley, who officiated over the burial of his dear relative, asked on those in the congregation at the Mt D’or Seventh Day Adventist church to leave justice for God, as revenge will not bring Ashanti back.

During his sermon, Riley made calls for an end to violence against women, and said that Ashanti’s death also brought back painful memories for families of other victims who suffered similar fates.

He remembered Shannon Banfield, who disappeared, and was found murdered in similar fashion five years ago, adding “Women’s lives matter. Ashanti’s life matters. Krystal’s life matters. Shannon Banfield’s life matters.”

He said “Ashanti trusted that she was in a safe seat, but she was not aware that the driver had crossed the floor.”

Aaliyah Riley, the teenager’s sister, and Nanyamka Wellington delivered the Eulogy.

Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly and Minister in the Ministry of Education Lisa Morris-Julian attended the funeral.
