The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services reminds all recipients of cheques for Senior Citizens’ Pension, Public Assistance Grant and Disability Assistance Grant that Cheques should not be presented at Supermarkets, groceries and shops for encashment, during the period February 3rd to March 31, this year.
The Ministry says it will honour Cheques cashed at Commercial Banks and District Revenue Offices only, in accordance with the Regulations.
In a media release Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry says this measure has been implemented temporarily, following the incident of stolen cheques at the Sangre Grande TTPost Office on January 31, 2022.
The public is advised ongoing discussions with key stakeholders continue to take place to address the situation in an effort to safeguard all clients and retailers alike.
The Ministry is encouraging all its clients to use the Direct Deposit service so that their payments can be deposited directly into their bank accounts.
The Direct Deposit is a safe, reliable, proven, confidential method of receiving a payment.
Persons should call the Ministry’s hotline number at 800-1MSD (800 – 1673) or visit a Social Welfare Office in their region for further information on this initiative OR visit www.social.gov.tt to download a form and apply today.
