RBL Tunapuna Workers Refuse To Work In “Hazardous Environment”, Says BIGWU

Work at the Republic Bank Limited (RBL), Tunapuna Branch was halted today as employees “invoked their legal right to refuse to work in a hazardous environment.”

This comes in the wake of the alleged refusal by RBL to close the branch for sanitizing after a senior official tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Guardian Media reports say, second vice president of the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union (BIGWU), Jason Brown confirmed that the employees were worried that the branch had been opened to the public despite these concerns thereby exposing them unknowingly.

Mr Brown said the matter had been escalated to RBL’s head office but up to 1 pm, there had been no feedback.
