Ramadhar to CoE: Criminal proceedings must be initiated in this matter!

Attorney representing families affected by the Paria diving tragedy Prakash Ramadhar says that there should be criminal prosecution recommended in the matter.

He made the recommendation while speaking at the Commission of Enquiry this morning.

Mr Ramadhar sought to remind those present of the testimony of Paria Representatives that whatever happens on Paria’s property is Paria’s responsibility.

He said the irony in that statement is that it was because they were of the view that the accident occurred on their property that they took the ‘godlike authority’ to prevent a rescue.

He stated that the State owned entity used the State’s resources to prevent a rescue through the coast guard.

He maintained that there must be accountability in this case.

He said it was obvious that the concern was not for the lives of those trapped in the pipe but for the liability that would befall Paria.
