Public sex offender website will carry names

Persons will have the opportunity to apply to the Court for their information to be exempted from the public sex offender website.

It does not state the public sex offender website will not carry names.

This position is highlighted in a media release from the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs.

The AG’s Office issued a correction with respect to an article by CNC3 “AG: Public sex register will not carry names, just locations” on Tuesday for the sake of clarity to the public.

The release says Clause 9 of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill; 2021 specifically provides the public sex offender website will contain inter alia, the names of convicted sex offenders.

It says where an application for exemption does not succeed; the offender’s name will be on the website unless exempted by a Court of Law.
