Psychologist Dr Varma Deyalsingh says violence in schools will continue to escalate

Violence in schools will continue to escalate.

This is the view of Psychiatrist Dr Varma Deyalsingh.

Yesterday a Form Two student suffered a punctured lung after he was stabbed by another student after school on Monday around 2:40 pm.

Reports state that the 14-year-old Fyzabad Secondary exited the school gates and attempted to cross the road with a friend. However, he was accosted by a student who asked him what his problem was.

He was stabbed in the right side of the chest following a scuffle.

He suffered a punctured lung and is reportedly in st able condition at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Just last month, five students were stabbed during a brawl at the Palo Seco Secondary School after two gangs reportedly clashed.

Speaking with News Power Now this morning Dr Deyalsingh said that violent incidents at schools will only continue to get worse.

He said parenting has a direct link to crime.

Dr Deyalsingh noted that in the absence of good parenting, the school system must then step in and enforce proper rules.
