Prisons Commissioner says COVID on the decline within the system

Commissioner of Prisons (Ag), Dennis Pulchan, says he is seeing a decrease in COVID19 cases within the prison system, despite the fact that 258 prisoners have tested positive for the virus.

He said “Testing is ongoing weekly but there is rapid decline. Thank God. It’s a tough job but having to lockdown the Maximum Security Prison and the courts to starve out the virus has worked. We are seeing a decrease in COVID-19 cases although we have a lot in quarantine under observation.”

Reports are, that of the 258 who tested positive, 36 have fully recovered, whilst 24 have been discharged from quarantine.

167 remain in station quarantine and an undisclosed number of them are currently being quarantined for observation purposes.

Pulchan stated that they have regular testing once a week by a team from the Ministry of Health and quite a few are found negative.”
